The one niggle with the absolute littlies? If one of your opponents is looking more worthy of a Hollywood handshake you can sabotage their chances of glory with action cards. This caused a few tears with the smallest gamers at the table, but were soon eased with a piece of snowman shaped shortbread. Verdict: If, like us, you’re big film fans this might be the ultimate casual game this Christmas. Getting the game to work was a bit fiddly to start - I tried streaming it direct to our Samsung smart TV but found in the end the least glitchy option was to run it on a phone and cast it using Google Smart View. Verdict: In the same way that Funko took on collectible figures to give people memorabilia for oft-overlooked things they loved in Pop form, they now seem to be doing the same with their Funko Games imprint and I am absolutely here for it. It’s played speedily and is really fun - although to get the most out of all the references you need to have watched Ted Lasso (in fact you should just do that anyway). But once it was working this was a blast all round. The questions were a good mixture of movie trivia, observation and film knowledge and there were a wide range of films chosen from The Goonies and Fast Times at Ridgemont High to the latest Jurassic World film. Meanwhile, if you have little ones who get frustrated at not being able to do things as well as older members of the family this is a brilliant leveller. Also, it has clearly been made by people who love every detail of the iconic story and it shows - the artwork, the beautiful book that underpins it all and even the game pieces are all stunning. We especially loved: The wide range of movies covered and the fact it was so easily scalable - while there are four playing pieces you can easily work in teams making it the ultimate party game for film fans. Fans of the original Scotland Yard will notice a few small differences here and there - not just in terms of character names but also the number of rounds you get is reduced making for shorter game play and less time to prevaricate. They're based in convenient locations including supermarkets, newsagents and train stations. Plus they're often open late and on Sundays.

The mechanic is relatively simple. You have your objective so you travel the sector earning credits to recruit allies, deploy ships and put obstacles in the way of your opponents to thwart them from taking power before you can. We especially loved: The fun theme and the cute artwork - and the baker's hat that came in the box that the winner could win while celebrating their victory. There’s also some great wishlist functionality which means when you see a film you like the look of you can find how to watch the full thing which was a nice touch. Also, while we’re not advocating excess festive drinking, we have earmarked a grown-ups only return to this game once the snowglobe gin and Baileys has been busted out and the children have gone to bed.

A couple of minor quibbles are that it would benefit with a licence for Disney films - although it was nice to see Despicable Me pop up - and while the suggested age is 13 we were considering playing this tweens slightly younger until a random (and slightly wince-inducing) clip from Candyman popped up for one of the questions. The premise: The ultimate movie game for movie buffs, using streamed clips of classic movies of all genres that can be played through your TV or tablet/phone device. This is solidly designed and the puzzle pieces are chunky and fit neatly within a kind of frame that means even unsteady little hands get involved.

Working out at around 20 minutes per player, once we’d played it a few times we were able to complete the game in around an hour which also made it a good option for an in-depth game that wasn’t too long for younger players’ attention spans. We especially loved: As ever, the game board, cards and pieces were well-made of premium card and just felt of incredibly high quality. The artwork of London was sumptuously designed, with the added benefit that there are so many different routes around the city you can play the game over and over again in different ways. A lovely game to get everyone in the Christmas spirit, ideal for all ages and with a good dusting of Disney magic on top.
