The Phone Skope cases are solid and afford the phone some level of protection if it is dropped, while the fit of the eyepiece adapter (at least on my Zeiss Diascope) was snug enough that I felt very comfortable leaving the phone just sitting on the eyepiece, something that is crucial if you want to get some high quality video with no shake or vibration. One thing unique about Phone Skope is that in addition to iPhone and Android cases, they also make models for iPads! It might seem absurd at first, but hooking up an iPad to a scope would be a great way to share what you are seeing in the scope because people can just look at the iPad screen rather than having to get close to the scope and adjust the height and focus, potentially getting off of the bird. I could see this being a game changer for leading group bird walks, especially kids who might have problems looking through the scope eyepiece without bumping the scope off of the bird. Pros Limited Compatibility: Unlike Phone Skope, Magview’s compatibility is limited to specific phone models. Thanks for making this comparison, the iPhone images look great! It appears there is more CA in your Sony a9 image than the iPhone 14 pro. Here are some image crops to demonstrate (top iPhone, bottom Sony a9):

For capturing photos and videos from scouting, hunting, wildlife viewing, or any other outdoor activity where high magnification is desired, it’s really hard to beat the easy to use and extremely practical Phone Skope. My Phone Skope goes with me on all of my outdoor adventures, and it will continue to do so long into the future! They understand the market’s diversity and ensure that no matter what brand or model you use, there’s a Phone Skope adapter for you. With the increased quality of cell phone cameras, more people are using them to photograph birds using their scopes as a huge zoom. Several adapters have come onto the market that fit onto the iPhone 4 and newer models, as well as some that work on various Android phones. Here we will review some of the best adapters that we have been able to test. While they aim to achieve similar results, there are substantial differences in their approach, compatibility, design, and overall performance. Let’s delve into these key contrasts.

Novagrade Universal Smartphone Adapter

Provides very little protection for the phone. The case also has many thin areas that make the phone easy to snap in but are likely more prone to breaking. Digiscoping photography, also called spotting scope photography, is simply the act or process of taking pictures with your digital camera, through the lens of an optic telescope. Next up, let’s turn our attention to Magview. This brand has also made waves in the industry, promising an easy-to-use, efficient solution for mobile viewing. One thing that is pretty important for an adapter is to easily adjust the distance between the camera and the eyepiece so that you can minimize vignetting and get a clear image. All of the below adapters are able to do this, especially if your scow eyepiece has an eyecup that extends in and out without twisting. Novagrade Universal Smartphone Adapter Time-lapse video - Users can use this feature to capture time-lapse videos to record a transition of a certain event and display it in a short video.

Most smartphones are equipped with a voice command option to take photos. Enable the voice command option so that touching the phone screen to take a photo or begin a video isn’t necessary. This will minimize loss of focus and result in clearer photos. Affordable: Magview comes at a more affordable price point than Phone Skope, making it an attractive option for those on a budget.

Meopta Meopix 5 iScoping Adapter

Mirror Video - The app mirrors live videos while recording, allowing users to see what a video will look like once recorded. Quality Concerns: Some users have reported that the image quality with Magview isn’t quite as sharp as that of Phone Skope. Premium digiscoping adapters that center smartphone cameras over optics, allowing you to capture pictures and record video. Access The Phone Skope Builder Universal Adapters If your scope doesn’t fit with one of the provided eyepiece adapters, you will have to shell out some more money to get the correct fitting adapter.

When it comes to enhancing the power of your phone’s camera, both Phone Skope and Magview come up as noteworthy options. Moreover, their robust app, though with a learning curve, offers a wide range of features, elevating the user experience. Versatility: Phone Skope offers universal adapters, ensuring their product is compatible with a wide variety of smartphones and cases. Whether you’re an Apple aficionado or an Android advocate, there’s a Phone Skope for you.

Universal Adapters

If you are planning to phone scope with different types of optics, you may consider Phone Skope’s Universal optic adapters. Phone Skope has two different sizes that will fit 90% of the optics on the market. The Phone Skope U1 Mini fits optic eyepieces ranging in size from 1.20” to 1.80”. This adapter will most binoculars, microscopes and smaller spotting scopes on the market. Phone Skope’s U2 Universal optic adapter is designed for optics with larger eyepieces like the latest spotting scopes and telescopes on the market with eyepieces ranging in size from 1.70” up to 2.25”. Turn your vehicle off when utilizing a window mount to eliminate vehicle vibration and prevent blurry images. Slow motion - The app lets users record videos in slow motion, which means capturing numerous frames per second! When I used the iScoping adapter with my iPhone 4S, I was unable to use a screen cover on the phone because the width of the case was too precisely formed for the phone to slide in when it had any sort of screen cover. I like using a screen cover to protect the phone from scratches so this was a real downside for me. However, I believe this was fixed in the model that fits the iPhone 5/5s. On the newest adapters, the eyepiece adapter comes off and the case has no raised areas so it is really usable as a full time case; you can just keep the adapters nearby to screw on when you have a digiscoping opportunity. Pros When we were testing this item we made a video of a bug on a leaf - a microscopic bug too small to see with the naked eye. We were so impressed with the video we've posted it on YouTube, just so you can see what the Phonescope is capable of photographing or videoing!
