When it comes to washing your baby’s clothes, you want detergents and softeners that are designed even for newborn skin. For such a tiny person, your baby creates a lot of mess. From leaking nappies to baby weaning (two words: carrot puree), you’ll be faced with different spills as they grow. Simply put, biological laundry detergents contain an enzyme that actively works to break down stains and remove them from fabric. While this is obviously great news for the more (ahem) sullied of clothes, it is by definition a little bit harsher, so it can be damaging to delicate clothing (wool and silk, for example) and more sensitive skin. Although some disagree, the rule of thumb is that it's best to try different types and see what works for your family. Most modern pods are even now designed to dissolve fully even in a cold wash, so you don’t need to worry about a build-up of plastic on the inside of the machine. I liked the dosing cap as others have said. No mess (unless you drop it everywhere! like me) and I like the smell. I think the clothes smell clean without being overpowering. I'm not so sure about it being good on stains, it didn't remove even simple washable felt tip pens from t-shirts.

Today, fortunately, many bottles can be recycled and some are even made from recycled plastics or eco-friendly alternatives. It can be tempting to throw all your washing into one load, especially when you have a million other jobs to do. You spend a lot of time cuddling your baby. So for extra snuggly softness, why not add a slosh of fabric softener to your family wash.

You can always add a little more if you think the wash needs it, but remember that most of us are using too much detergent regularly, and water does a pretty good job on its own, so you don’t need it to overdo the detergent. Which is the best laundry detergent? Today, there are even versions of each type of detergent that are allergy friendly, suitable for washing on low temperatures and more. I wouldn’t buy the softener. To be honest, I didn’t really see the point of it. It was quite watery, didn’t seem to have an effect on “softness” and didn’t leave a pleasant smell either. It works even at 30 degrees and is ideal for the most sensitive of skin. What temperature should you wash baby clothes at? As with other posters the dosing cap was brilliant, saved wastage and allowed an accurate measurement. The clothes smelt fresh without being overpowering. I found the softener worked well on small wash loads but not on larger ones.

Obviously, the best laundry detergent is a very personal choice, so what’s good for you and your family may not be the best for someone else. That said, we recommend Daz as our best overall laundry detergent that is effective even at low temperatures whilst protecting colours and brightening whites. Affordably priced and with great value for money, many families are rediscovering the fantastic cleaning power of this brand. How we chose our recommendations Recommendations from real Mumsnet users Bold’s All-in-One pods are made in collaboration with Lenor and contain their lovely lavender and camomile fabric softener within the pods.If you are fed up with laundry products that smell great in the bottle but find that same fresh fragrance doesn’t transfer to your washing, then Wilton London Cedarwood Laundry Liquid is the product for you. The Fairy pods will fully dissolve at any temperature and so will be equally effective when run through a cold wash cycle as they would in a warm one. This is a great option as putting your clothes in a cold wash cycle can make a big difference in your carbon footprint.

Similar to Method, Ecover is another eco-friendly brand which offers a variety of products, including both cleaning and laundry products. I had actually used an Ecover fabric softener prior to testing out the detergent and loved it so I was excited to give the liquid detergent a go. I have recommended the products to 2 family members since using them - one because she is about to have a baby and the other because she could smell the products on one of the blankets in my home and wanted to know what I used. Daz is a household brand that is benefitting from a resurgence in popularity. Previously known for getting the job done, it protects everything from the bright colours of your favourite summer dress to reviving the brilliant white of your favourite set of bedsheets. Maybe that is why it is the most recommended washing powder on our forums, beating all of its competitors to our best laundry detergent top spot. So I received these this morning. My husband couldn't understand why I was so delighted. I had completely forgotten I had filled out the form to test! I haven't had a survey. Many people find that using a washing pod as well as a fabric conditioner leaves their clothes smelling strongly of unnatural scents for much longer than they would like.

Laundry detergents such as Bio-D Non-Bio Washing Powder and Ecover’s Non-bio Laundry Liquid are eco-friendly, as are the Ecozone soapnuts. How much laundry detergent should I use? The detergent also struggled getting rid of mammoth baby poo explosion stains from white onesies even with pretreating and adding in extra detergent as instructed. The stains came out after two washes so maybe I needed more detergent then required. When using my usual laundry pods, I usually have to put in 2 pods so maybe the dosage just needed increasing more?

I DID WONDER HOW WELL IT WOULD GET SUNCREAM OUT OF WHITE SUMMER CLOTHES GUESS WE WILL FIND OUT IN 6MTHS! Laundry detergents come in various forms (pods, liquid and powder), but all work similarly. When combined with water in your washing machine, they penetrate deep into the fabric of your clothes, lifting stubborn stains, dirt, bacteria and allergens before the rinse and spin cycle washes them away. Good quality laundry detergents are effective even at low temperatures, brightening whites and refreshing clothes whilst protecting fabrics and colours. How can I save money on laundry detergent? Finding products that don’t irritate sensitive skin can be a lengthy (and painful) case of trial and error that results in carefully swapping between products for different family members adding hours to your laundry routine. However, that needn’t be the case with Surcare Sensitive. To give you added peace of mind, the Fairy Non Bio range has been awarded the Skin Health Alliance seal of approval, making it ideal for the most delicate of skin. I’ve always been drawn to Fairy as a brand because they are suitable for sensitive skin. The brand behind these pods said: “Fairy Non Bio pods gently clean and wrap your family’s delicate skin in huggable softness. Dermatologically accredited, the Fairy Non Bio range has been awarded the Skin Health Alliance seal.
