Description

If the door is only lightly soiled, a simple wash with warm soapy water, a gentle scrub and thorough rinse might be all that is needed. Using a brush or lint-free cloth, apply an even, generous coat of Polytrol. Leave it work for 10-20 mins and then wipe off the excess Polytrol with a new, clean lint-free cloth and leave to dry. Although we didn’t have any mildew on the door, if you do, don’t worry. Mildew can be treated with a 50:50 bleach and water solution. Just scrub it on, leave it for 10-15 minutes, then rinse it off.

This will help to make sure you remove all dirt, grime, oil and any other residue that may make it harder for the paint to adhere to the surface. Want an updated design, as well as a new colour? Apply Polytrol using a fine wire wool (000 grade) soaked in Polytrol and allow it to work for 10-20 minutes. Wipe off any excess Polytrol with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave to dry. Rather than repainting the whole thing and making a mess, you could invest in a touch-up pen to fill in those grooves and scratches in the door. Firstly, prepare the door. Remove any dirt, grease, grime or mildew from it. If there is any wax or polishes on the door, you will also need to remove this.

Final Thoughts

Polytrol works by saturating deep into the surface of the door, not by leaving a coating, so removal of the excess Polytrol is important. You will need to keep your door frame free of the grit and grime that can build up over time and will impact the way that the door opens and closes. After this, it’s time to wipe off any excess product with a clean, lint-free cloth. Leave it to dry Clean the surface with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly or use an appropriate solvent (follow manufacturer’s instructions). Leave the surface to dry for a minimum of 24 hours. Application of Polytrol Colour Restorer General directions Before getting starting with Polytrol, make sure that your door is completely dry. Time to get going…

It’s important that any rags you have soaked in Polytrol are properly discarded or they could spontaneously catch fire. See Polytrol’s full instructions for more information. Martin Lewis: Do you have a Power of Attorney? It’s crucial protection – not just for the elderly – and more important than a will The most effective method for identifying and treating draught problems is to take a closer look at your door. You might be able to take fix it yourself with some care and attention, but in other cases, a professional will need to assist.Your doors are prone to fade and weather with time owing to their exposure to sunlight and other weather conditions, just like any other exterior feature of your property. These corrosive elements might cause a door to appear worn out over time. If constant use does cause your hinges to drop, your door may need some minor hinge adjustment. Don’t worry, doing this from time to time is natural.

If this isn’t done, the door will be resting solely on the latch, which has the potential to result in long-term problems, such as ‘warping or ‘swelling’. In addition, making sure you shut the door correctly when you enter or leave your home will help to prevent any further problems. Making sure you ‘throw’ the handle to ensure both the top and bottom of the door is hooked in properly can help to prevent problems occurring over the long-term.
