Oxford definition) The land along the edge of the sea or ocean, a lake or another large area of water. Then David reminded everybody “We don’t do encores”. Something anybody who has been The Wedding Present live would know. There are a lot of people who made ‘At The Edge Of The Sea’ possible. The well-deserved list of thank you’s from David included the bands, their crews, those on the merch stall and those who made online steam possible. After saying “See you next year. We’ll leave you with this one” David realised he hadn’t introduced his band. I’m sure everybody knew who they were, but that wasn’t the point. Unsurprisingly each band member got a massive cheer as their name was called out. Lyrical, deeply personal, and rigorously researched, these three classics of American science and nature writing are now collected in this deluxe Library of America volume.

Carson(1907 – 1964) was a noted American marine biologist, conservationist, and writer whose research and graceful writing about the natural world shaped today’s environmental movement. Rachel Carson, writer, scientist, and ecologist, grew up simply in the rural river town of Springdale, Pennsylvania. Her mother bequeathed to her a life-long love of nature and the living world that Rachel expressed first as a writer and later as a student of marine biology. Carson graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham University) in 1929, studied at the Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory, and received her MA in zoology from Johns Hopkins University in 1932. The friends for the live set of Terry De Castro & Friends were an additional vocalist (Astrid Williamson), bassist (Melanie Howard), drummer (Nicholas Wellauer) and percussionist (Will Thomas). Terry explained that her eight tune performance was “songs about love and demise of love”. Musically the set was beautifully crafted Americana pop songs. Before a cover of The Smiths song ‘London’ Terry explained that she “countrified covers”. Astrid Williamson with Terry De Castro at Concorde 2, Brighton 12.8.23 (pic Sara-Louise Bowrey)

Rachel Louise Carson (May 27, 1907 – April 14, 1964) was an American marine biologist and conservationist whose book Silent Spring and other writings are credited with advancing the global environmental movement.

Craig Armstrong’s interest in the Gaelic Psalm tradition led to the creation of a special piece of work c elebrating the spiritual music of the Islands. Ballantyne is a collaboration with musician and composer Calum Martin, who has been involved in composing, recording, performing and teaching Gaelic music for more than 40 years. The UK’s leading string orchestra, Scottish Ensemble (SE) inspires audiences in the UK and beyond with vibrant performances which are powerful, challenging and rewarding experiences. Based in Glasgow, SE is built around a core of outstanding string players who perform together under Artistic Director Jonathan Morton. The group is becoming increasingly known for its international collaborations with artists from other disciplines, from dance and theatre companies to visual artists. Starting in 2014, their series of annual cross-artform collaborations has so far included immersive projects with: visual artist Toby Paterson; Swedish contemporary dance company Andersson Dance; electronic-classical crossover composer Anna Meredith and visual artist Eleanor Meredith; and, most recently, Scottish theatre company Vanishing Point on a production centred around the music of Arvo Pärt.Season Three: " Scuttle" • " King Crab" • " Island of Fear" • " Land of the Dinosaurs" • " Heroes" • " The Beast Within" • " Ariel's Treasures" • " A Little Evil" She wrote several other articles designed to teach people about the wonder and beauty of the living world, including "Help Your Child to Wonder," (1956) and "Our Ever-Changing Shore" (1957), and planned another book on the ecology of life. Embedded within all of Carson's writing was the view that human beings were but one part of nature distinguished primarily by their power to alter it, in some cases irreversibly.
