After calibration which itself seems to sound like the solenoid inside the TRV takes around 10 seconds to close, when the TRV is sent a signal to open, it sounds like the opening only lasts 2 seconds, net result no heat. I suppose the thermostat issue derives from the fact I'm only used to "dumb" heating systems where you turn the temp up and all the rads come on until the set point is reached. The main message I got from the video is that the small energy savings made by turning down, or off, rooms individually are lost due to the gas boiler now running less efficiently.

It works for us that when another room hears the living room is also heated, being as it’s the room we spend most our time in. Easy to install – there are simple step-by-step instructions online – and compatible with most radiators. Some of the system radiators use generic 32mm TRV bodies and old Myson 28mm TRV's with third party metal adapters, they all work perfectly.I wanted to quickly talk about updates, because Drayton have always had a reputation for listening to user feedback and acting on it, and they’ve brought out two reasonably chunky updates this year. In most cases I would have rooms that are not being used at that particular time set back to 16 degrees - cool enough to save energy but not so cold as to take an age to warm up to comfort levels when you want to use them. Replace your existing manual thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) with Wiser Radiator Thermostats to give room-by-room heating control. Some might say they lack a temperature reading on them, which again, would be good for people who don’t have access to the app, and my YouTube subscriber suzamar270 loves the fact that their Tado thermostat measures temperature and humidity, although quite how accurate humidity is with the sensor so close to the radiator I don’t know.

If I had smart TRV’s on my living room rads then I don’t see what benefit I’d get from having the wall stat in that room too? I’m going to be updating you on how I’ve found the system, the upgrades I’ve made and the other things I’ve learnt since install and I should add Drayton aren’t sponsoring or otherwise paying me anything to do this blog and video. Whereas a home office could be on in the day to 21degC and off at night and even off on days when a homeworker goes into the office.

It was hoped it would become industry standard with all the boiler manufacturers subscribing, but sadly they haven’t, and in a bid to tie us into their system with extended warranties and the like if you adopt their controls they’ve developed their own versions of it e. so if by setting a TRV to 20 degrees and a thermostat in a non-TRV area to 14 degrees that area may get to over 14 degrees before the TRV gets to 20I'm not sure how I "tell" the hub that the thermostat exists. The sound of them wurring around the house when the heating comes on is almost imperceptible and I actually rather like it as it shows the system is up and running. But also, it is useful for those in the family that don’t have access to the app, and for area where radiator temperature is not accurate due to bad air circulation. Multi-room heating’ is where you can control the temperature of each room in your home using a smart TRV.

Locating the thermostat in a warm space, such as the kitchen, risks it turning off early because for example the cooker or tumble dryer is on and this has warmed up the room. Now these things aren’t really necessary for me to plug any gaps in my smart heating network, but they have become an essential part of day to day life in helping me save electricity - particularly for my editing suite - which I could never be bothered to stoop under the table to switch off each night. The big downside is, being lithium they won’t gradually lower in strength and the app won’t consequently update you on the battery status. In general, somewhat disappointed with the control characteristics of the system, can only describe the radiator stat's action as "on/off" control, can not see any attempt at achieving "proportional" action as was quite normal with the old dumb TRV's they are replacing, radiators are either piping hot or off, no modulated "in between" point.
