In between filming scenes, signing autographs for locals, photoshoots in London, talk show appearances and jetting off to France for an impromptu party, the three Dahlias do what they do best - surrupticiously sleuth. I got into this one straight away, transported to a country house for an engaging homage to vintage golden age murder; full of 30’s flair and with a twisty modern vibe. The author of the bestselling former Waterstones Thriller of the Month The Three Dahlias spins another fiendishly clever vintage mystery, as the three sleuthing actresses reunite to solve a murder on a movie set. The story felt like a delicious puzzle to get stuck into and I found myself getting my notebook out to jot down ideas, very much like one of the characters in the book.

The three actresses of different generations who played the formidable Dahlia Lively are back after teaming up to solve the murders at Aldermere. Each of the three leads is given narrative focus at different points in the novel and Watson moves between these with ease, really building a remarkable amount of intrigue and tension. Filming in a remote house in the countryside, accessible only through one road and a small village setting, the cast are very much on top of each other. Although I am sure that she was invited to Aldemere in the last book to promote the movie, as she was also part of it. I enjoyed this book every bit as much as the first one and hope that we see the three dahlias again soon. But the film set soon turns sinister when Rosalind receives death threats and is nearly killed when the prop knife on set is swapped for a real knife. After reading the first book earlier in the year I was eagerly awaiting the next instalment and it did not disappoint! Having met them in the first book of the same name, I feel like I know them better now, they each bring something to the story, wit, verve, glamour and gumption plus the determination to get to the bottom of murder. We are also trying to tackle a pretty heavy subject here, where an old actor used to drug and rape young actresses.

Things turn even darker when a crew member disappears suddenly and an actress working on the film is killed in a hit and run accident, and suspicion falls on Kit, Posy’s friend and costar, who was previously involved with her. I really do hope that there will be more books featuring the Three Dahlias as I have found myself really enjoying not only the authors style of writing but the characters and the storylines. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.Set in glorious Wales, with a huge and well drawn cast, this beautifully written crime novel is as entertaining as it is twisty. Katy Watson is the most perfect scene setter, so much so that I felt like I was at Ty Gwyn solving these murders myself. Katy Watson has succeeded in delivering another cosy murder mystery romp, one which affectionately plays with the tropes of the genre.
