Because you have a lot more world experience everything might seem a little dark, I can imagine it would for me if I was to re-read them all now. They were all very well written and some tricky issues were dealt with sensitively and appropriately. I know you think these things don't happen in your dd's world, but there may be children in her class who are going through similar situations or be from backgrounds that the books describe.
