My original thought was to separate the horrid plastic pipes from the control surface wires underneath and use the control wires while making new pipes. So I messed it up a bit and bent a few things and I'll make a decision tonight about whether it's going on.

So here is a detailed pictorial review of what Airfix is bringing us with their brand-new 1/24 scale Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat kit. The same image, but after one of our graphic designers has worked their magic – this scene could almost be Lt.The trade off is that if i use a 1mm wire inside it to give a nice tight look to the lines then it's going to be harder to shape after the engine is glued in. As a final image to show how detailed this work can be, Chris has included a picture showing the final surface detail of the rear fuselage area, not only showing the panel detail, but also the number of different rivets and fasteners which had to be accurately represented – this is a quite astonishing image. aluminium wire and the thicker from 2mm both sheathed with shrink tubing and dunked in boiling water for a few seconds then shaped and fitted.

For those brave souls who have gone before me could I please have a little feedback on how it's looking. Trying to get clamps to sit where you want them on an aerodynamic surface tests the patience somewhat. I would not have treated the control surfaces that way, as they were all fabric covered except for the short flaps on the stub wings. As impressive and accurate as LIDAR scan data unquestionably is, receipt of this information only represents the starting point for any Airfix new tooling project and signifies the start of an intense period of activity for the designer responsible for the project. but, they most certainly spray well straight out of the bottle (used the MRP for the underside and green top side).I'm not sure that was standard ops procedure, but I have seen one or two photos in that configuration.
