It's dark and menacing, but strangely beautiful and a glimpse into the little-known talents of bassist Nigel Harrison, who also co-wrote the similarly dark "War Child. Only two singles were released from the album, Island Of Lost Souls (b-side: Dragonfly) and War Child (b-side: Little Ceasar). The Beast" deals with lead singer Debbie Harry's experiences of becoming a public figure: "I am the centre of attraction, by staying off the streets". It was produced by Mike Chapman, who produced every Blondie album during their initial run with the only exceptions being the first two, Blondie and Plastic Letters.

Yet the group is loathe to surrender completely the clout that chart-topping singles and platinum LPs have allowed it: amid the offbeat stylistic jumble of The Hunter, we find Blondie carefully hedging their bets, offering what amounts to cloned versions of the hits from Autoamerican. Another song that could have been made into a hit is "For Your Eyes Only," a bewitching and well-crafted melody originally penned for the 1981 Bond movie of the same name - it lost out, however, to Sheena Easton's number. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I also feel like this is another reason why some Blondie fans don't care for it, but I find the sound/various themes very refreshing. I wouldn't say it's all bad, but there's some real duds to contend with, and a decent track like "War Child" could've benefited with a better with a tighter sound. The album concludes with a cover version of Smokey Robinson's " The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game", originally recorded by the Marvelettes in 1967.

English Boys" is sweetly serene, and contains some of Debbie's most introspective lyrics about how the world was changing during her formative years. The next track, "Danceway" written by keyboardist Jimmy Destri (the songs he wrote for the band are genius) steps slightly away from the jungle theme. Little Caesar" is a strange little ditty, but I really have a soft spot for it because it's so unique and quirky. The first single (and also the only single released from this record) "Island of Lost Souls" is a calypso-flavored gem. Some might say that the band went at the material halfheartedly or without much passion, with Harry enjoying solo success with 1981's KooKoo. I was hoping that the music would be just as crazy, but after the somewhat promising first track that kinda matches the cover theme, it's generally a slog.

It's the most underappreciated of Blondie's works, and despite the fact that much of it was forced out it's nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be. However, one imitation, the lead single "Island of Lost Souls" (an attempt to recreate the global chart-topper "The Tide is High") works surprisingly well and features a memorable melody and lyrics from Harry. War Child" is another highlight, (the music is stellar) and this album also contains an extended version of this song. I guess part of the reason why some people think this is the worst Blondie album ever is because it's so damn serious.War Child was largely ignored outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland (where it reached 39 and 21, respectively). If Blondie kept up the same sense of experimentation and intrigue as "Orchid Club" for the duration of _The Hunter_, it may be hailed a gem or one of their most interesting works. War Child”: a fierce electro-disco with stabs of percussion and wind instruments – again, a faultless track. The Hunter is the sixth studio album by American rock band Blondie, released on May 24, 1982, by Chrysalis Records.
