But when an adorably-freckled seamstress comes barreling into his life, he finds Netflix-And-Bickering with her to be his new favorite pastime. Not this bullshit where you can tell the characters are MeAnT tO bE but “ugh oh noooooes sex keeps getting in the waaay so hooow will we ever know if our feelings are TrrrruuuuuE. Friends to more is my favorite trope and with Blindsided, Amy Daws has created an interesting story with engaging characters that come alive through the duet narration. Overall, I think I would have enjoyed this book more in audio format because I tend to like light-hearted long books in audio. Mac and Freya's story is a spin-off from the Harris Brothers series, but can be read as a standalone.

After a horrendous game of Never Have I Ever, Mac knows exactly where he stands with Freya's expertise in the dating field. They hang out at her place and eat while watching her favorite show - which btw was mentioned so many times it got annoying after a while. I level him with a stare and angrily state, “I am a short, round Cornish seamstress with a West Country accent that only gets thicker when I’m flustered. Best friends to lovers trope is always tricky for me because I often want to shake my characters and say, "ARE YOU CRAZY?

Freya was a great lead character with vulnerabilities everyone can relate to, her character showed so much growth. You said-and I quote, I want to feel the breeze of the house-air on my skin as I walk up three flights of stairs. This can make it very easy to dive right in and read these books to the very end in one sitting if your life allows.

I am not surprised about how much I loved this book though because I expect nothing less from this Author. this has the exact same tropes as Before Jamaica Lane (one of my all-time faves), where an "experienced" H teaches his "inexperienced" best friend, aka the h, anything that revolves around that dating, then that turns into sex lessons, then they fall in love, etc.

Mac is constantly ensuring that Freya knows she's amazing in her own way and Freya wants Mac to show her exactly what it's like to date. Normally, I do not like to read "virgin heroine vs man-wh*re hero" books so it was the reason I was reluctant to read this book for so long but then I had the book already on my Kindle so I said, “What the hell, let me at least try.

I didn’t enjoy the last moment of angst because the characters always have to have a fall out in the end and oh how annoying that part is. The more I read, the more I wondered how much more ridiculous and irritating it would get and I cannot tell you how unbearable it gets. I also never read any other book from this author to really care for the other characters that were constantly mentioned. That we are just these lost souls doomed to embarrass ourselves with our naïveté until a man activates our sexuality with their dicks! Now they’re both about to learn the biggest lesson of all: Don't fall in love with your best friend. In about 20% of the book, we're informed about this diagnosis, Mac leaves London and Freya, his game suffers, his grandad dies and Mac reconciles with Freya again and HEA. This isn't my favourite trope and there are only a couple of books that have ever made me rethink my rating on this trope.
