After using this primer for several weeks, I think I have an understanding of how this product works, and hope that this review is helpful to those of you who are considering purchasing it! When you spread both primers out without sheering it out completely (like in the photo above), the Becca looks like a slightly illuminating primer while the Physician’s Formula primer almost has a metallic finish, like you would expect from a liquid highlighter.

It’s very suitable for those with dry skin, but those with an oily skin type may find there’s just too much shine for them. It is a known fragrance allergen and as of 1st of March 2022, it has been banned in the EU due to animal studies showing a possible link to infertility (in rats - so no need to panic even if you used a product before with Butylphenyl Methylpropional). Right off the bat, I can say that the colors look sooo different from the packaging and the promo photos! The Australian-born makeup brand was the first to promote a pared-back, natural and cool-girl aesthetic to women of all skin tones and ages, and its quality was outstanding. I used Too Faced Born This Way Foundation and it went on even more smoothly than normal with a definite ‘lit from within’ glow. Visually, both primers are a champagne shade, but the Becca primer looks to be lighter when swatched heavily. I plan to experiment with some of my sheer coverage tinted moisturizers and CC creams to see where it gets me.After 10 hours of wear (I work full time and what can I say but the media never sleeps), my skin was still glowing, a bit too much, but my face was still smooth. I’ve also decided I hate the way that matte foundations look on me – they make my face look so flat and dull, even with bronzer/blush/etc.

All in all, licorice is considered to be one of the safest skin lightening agents with the fewest side effects. I feel like the Becca primer does have longer lasting power, as my skin looked dewier with the Becca primer after 12 hours of wear. Beauty boxes – bundles of products and make-up delivered straight to your door via a subscription – are by far the easiest (and most exciting) way to get your style fix, and they make an excellent gift too. I don’t wear face makeup (foundation, concealer, powder) much anymore, but I like giving my skin an extra boost. It’s safe and gentle, but even more importantly, it’s not a feared-by-everyone-mostly-without-scientific-reason paraben.

A gorgeous primer that I wear everyday with or without foundation (mostly without) because it gives my slightly mature skin a lovely polished surface. I think skin type also factors in - the Charlotte Tilbury looks a lot more overtly dewy, whereas the Becca has a more metallic finish.

Blended together, they result in a first of its kind, lightweight, whipped fluid that creates a smooth canvas and acts as an instant filter. Backlight Technology encourages a lit-from-within glow, adding a sheer layer that’s powered by luminosity. That’s why a product containing linalool that has been opened for several months is more likely to be allergenic than a fresh one. The Becca Backlight primer claims to contain three filtering luminescent pearls that are used to create a diffused radiance that catches the light and gives you a soft, glowy look. If the colors of the Becca primers are important to you, then you may not like the Lumilayer as much.I wear it underneath my Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup, which is a medium-coverage foundation that I apply with a makeup sponge, and you can still see the sheen peep through the foundation.
